Mentees and Mentors,

We appreciate your interest in mentorship. Please be advised that after March 31, 2024, the Business Mentor NY Program will cease to operate. However, you can continue to access mentoring services by contacting Entrepreneurship Assistance Centers in your area at esd.ny.gov/eac-directory to obtain one-on-one counseling with your current business idea or small business.

What I need help with

My background as an entrepreneur

My current challenges

Our biggest challenge right now is figuring out how to grow sustainably. Managing inventory with an eye towards new product development and overhead has been hard and landed us in a number of financial pinches. Although our gross sales continue to increase - questions of how to expand our overhead (fulfillment centers, staff, etc...) are in conflict with our monthly overhead, and we are considering a number of strategies we would love help weighing. Lines of credit/Credit cards, loans, expanding/shrinking product lines, and overhead are all variables to be considered here.

About my venture

Fredericks & Mae Started 2013

Fredericks & Mae is the art/design team of Jolie Mae Signorile and Gabriel Fredericks Cohen. The two met through a shared love for materials - Fredericks & Mae started in the piles of feathers, thread, gold and paper that decorated their first studio in 2007. Their collaborative practice has since evolved into a series of objects for the home, garden and sky. Fredericks & Mae is a material anthropology of objects with confused origins. Tools, games and rituals trace arcs though history and across the earth - we follow these arcs: nose to the ground and mouths agape. We started in 2008 quite informally with no investment or plan, and have since grown into company with two full time partners. This business is run on passion - it is our love - and we want to learn how to run it with excellence, integrity, and whatever business savvy we can muster.

Countries of operation: United States of America
